For young people

There’s lots of evidence that shows that building 5 Ways to Wellbeing themes (connect, be active, take notice, keep learning, create/play/give) into our day-to-day lives will help boost our mood, feel happier and more positive.

The Specialist Mentoring Service uses a tool to help the young people we work with find out what 5-ways to wellbeing activities could improve their wellbeing. The mentor will support the young person to think about each of these aspects of their life and identify any areas to focus on in order to support the young person’s needs and ambitions.

Here’s a few examples:

Connect…

Talk with family, see friends, chat with colleagues and peers - at home, school, college, work or in your local clubs. Building these connections will support and enrich your every day.

Be active…   

Step outside, run around, cycle, play a game, kick a ball about, dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity that you enjoy and that suits your level of fitness.

Take notice…

Be curious, looks around you, listen, find your space. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

Keep learning…

Try something new, read for fun, fix something, learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun.

Create, Play, Give…

Draw, play more, think big dreams, share, do something nice for a friend, thank someone, smile, volunteer your time. Looking out, as well as in can be incredibly rewarding and creates connections with the people around you.
