Coping at Christmas
SASS's guide to navigating the festive period

With Christmas round the corner we looked at some of the potential difficulties and stresses that may present themselves people wanting to make changes around their drinking.

We asked six individuals involved with our service to share their thoughts about what they are looking to this Christmas, what’s going to be more of a struggle and for their advice to anyone else who is feeling unsure about how they will cope at this time of year.

make plans, create a safe space for yourself and have escape routes

put your recovery first

have someone on the end of the phone, avoid difficult situations and have things to look forward to in the new year

use positive experiences to support you through

keep doing the things that support you, be aware of the time when Christmas has finished

ask for help, don’t let things pile-up
