11th-17th November 2019
The theme of Alcohol Awareness Week this year was ‘alcohol and me’. Each year, across the country organisations like Sheffield Alcohol Support Service put on activities and campaigns to encourage people to think more closely about the effect alcohol might be having on their lives.
This year the ARC (Alcohol Recovery Community) team in Sheffield were busy setting up stalls, offering information and engaging members of the public in conversations. These included discussions around their drinking habits, the potential risks associated to alcohol and looking at ways anyone could make little or bigger changes to consumption.
During week the team visited Sheffield Hallam University where they spoke to students about the nutritional value of drinks and highlighted the extra calories taken in on big night out.
ARC has also been up at Northern General Hospital speaking to patients, staff and visitors about how they can seek support if they are worried about their own or someone else’s drinking.
Throughout the week they received a really positive response with some people really eager to engage and share their experiences and thoughts.
